Olympus Has Fallen Review

Die Hard in the Whitehouse?

Well not quite. Olympus has Fallen is a decent enough film just nothing special. Although the way it started it was quickly going down the road of awful. By that I mean it was so god damn cheesy. It felt like some dreadful B movie not a Die Hard rival action film. I get that they had to show you the friendship and trust between Gerard Butler and Aaron Eckhart but did they have to make it so wet. Anyway we all know from the trailer the presidents (Aaron Eckhart) wife dies. Gerard Butler is let go from the secret service and that then builds towards his redemption. It’s all a bit cheesy right up to when the action starts and then it kicks off!

So the action is in full flow. People are dying and when I say people I mean every single secret service agent that the president has. It’s quite brutal and makes you forget how cheesy the beginning was. Anyway queue Gerard Butler being the only person in their left alive who can save The President and his son. There’s a load of communication between Gerard Butler and the other politicians including Morgan Freeman and there us always that douchebag he has to prove wrong. Much like Die Hard. So Gerard Butler goes around kills all the henchman including his friend who has sold out to the Koreans and rescues the president’s son. Queue more wet scenes that are extremely cringe worthy.

So the big finale is Gerard Butler saving The president and redeeming himself and becoming part of the secret service again and also realizing how important his wife/girlfriend (I can’t remember if they were married) is.

Predictable.

Yeah it always was going to be. The President is never going to die is he. Gerard Butler would always save the day and redeem himself. What I watched this film for was the action. Which I can’t fault. There was a lot of it and I enjoyed that but the dialogue was awful. I know action films aren’t great for dialogue but when was Die Hard ever cheesy (minus the latest one). There were a few one liners but never enough that made you chuckle or made you remember them after. It was a good film in terms of action and if you buy it on DVD just skip the talking scenes and go straight to that. Then you will enjoy it.
